Akkusativ Präpositionen: für, um, bis, ohne
Dativ Präpositionen: mit, zu, bei, aus, von, in, an, nach, seit

With these prepositions: if the object is static, it’s dative, else if the object is being moved, then it’s accusative.

liegen	static	Dativ	Das Buch liegt unter dem Stuhl.	The book is lying under the chair.
hängen	static	Dativ	Das Bild hängt an der Wand.	The picture is hanging on the wall.
stellen	movement	Akkusativ	Ich stelle die Flasche auf den Tisch.	I put the bottle on the table.
legen	movement	Akkusativ	Er legt das Buch unter den Stuhl.	He lays the book under the chair.
hängen	movement	Akkusativ	Wir hängen das Bild an die Wand.	We hang the picture on the wall.
sitzen	static	Dativ	Er sitzt auf dem Stuhl.	He is sitting on the chair.
setzen	movement	Akkusativ	Er setzt sich auf den Stuhl.	He sits down on the chair.

These all take Dative except “um” and “bis”!
